THE Source For Truth About CAT Adjusting
Conduct Becoming Of An Adjuster

During your adjusting career you will handle many types of claims and you will meet insureds from different cultures, race and religious beliefs. They will be from all walks of life and will vary in their financial status.

But the one thing that they will ALL have in common is that they are our valued customers and should be treated and seen that way.

Each and every one of them deserves the same respect and consideration.

As an adjuster you must always be professional and handle each one of your claims the same way (within the parameters of the policy) regardless of any differences that may exist.

There is the other side of the coin also. You may at some time experience discrimination that is directed towards you. It could be you are a female and the insured expected to see a male adjuster or it could be that you are of a different race, or simply that you are not from their area of the country.

So how do you handle this?

Don't get angry; Never compromise yourself this way. Stay professional.

You counteract this situation by remaining calm, and continuing to do your inspection completely and thoughly. Afterwards, discuss your inspection with the insured, explaining the claim process and settlement (nicely).

If you are unable to defuse the situation, leave the premises and call your manager immediately to relay the circumstances. As long as you have remained calm and courteous, the office will always stand behind you.
