THE Source For Truth About CAT Adjusting
Taking Proper Photos
Often new adjusters are unsure of the types and amount of photos they need to document their files when inspecting a loss. Here are some basic guidelines that should help.

1. Take a photo of any damage you find pertaining to structures or content items.

2. Take photos of any area that an insured states is damaged, BUT you find no damage.

3. Take photos of ALL maintance type damage that is excluded in the policy. For example: rotted fascia, soffits, or an ongoing condition.

4. Make sure your photos are in focus and clearly show the damage.

5. Make sure you include a good description of the photo. What is it? What are you trying to show in that particular photo?

6. Don't take repetitive photos of the same damage.

7. Content Items may require more photos. For example a wood dresser was damaged due to water, the bottom is warped and the wood is splitting. You will need two photos of this one item: a) An overview of the dresser b) A close-up of the damage

8. Some companies require what is called a Risk Photo. This is simply a full overview photo of the dwelling.
