THE Source For Truth About CAT Adjusting
Think Safety First

Every storm someone falls off a ladder or a roof and gets hurt or killed...this applies to both adjusters and contractors.

One of THE most important things for you is to ALWAYS climb the ladder hands free. This means that you are not carrying anything in your hands and this enables you to grip the ladder as you climb.

Many adjusters will use a tool belt to carry everything they will need on the roof such as tape measures, chalk, cameras, pitch gage etc. Some adjusters will elect to wear a hunting or fishing vest that has many deep pockets in it (This gets hot in the summer).

I know one adjuster that uses a backpack to carry everything and he will set the pack down on a chimney or on any other stable place and retrieve each item as he needs it.

There is no right or wrong way...what ever works for you that helps you do your job and keeps your hands free while doing it is fine, just have something to use.

Many adjusters will also buy a large clip that they attach to their clip boards and then can clip the board to their belt loops.

If it is a windy day or if you have a 2 story that you have to set up a ladder to get on, always tie the ladder off at the top with a small bungee cord (usually to a gutter). Do this before you try to get off the ladder onto the roof! This will keep the ladder stable so that it won't slide with you.

Always extend the top of the ladder up at least 3 feet above the eve line...especially important if you have a steep roof so you have something to hang onto as you get off the roof back onto the ladder.

Again, Think about YOUR safety first.
